As the demand for seafood rises globally, we have moved from a capture dominated fishing industry to a farm fishing one, otherwise known as aquaculture. Although there is still a stigma around farm fishing in some parts of the world, this method is gaining market share faster than anticipated.
This sharply inclining graph shows the traction this form of fishing is gaining. The amount (in million metric tons) of captured fish has stayed the same, hovering around 90 since 2007. As the oceans are becoming overfished and demand for fish rises, aquaculture will save the fishing industry.
