When Ron Koller moved to Providence, he couldn’t find the perfect hangout spot… so he decided to open one himself.
Ron brought The Malted Barley to Providence and has been delighting guests ever since he opened with delicious craft beer and craft food. And Upserve POS has been delighting him and his staff as their bar POS software of choice.
Ron Koller does not have time for inconsistency. As the owner of The Malted Barley in Providence, RI, he needs everything to work the right way, the first time, every time. That includes his staff, and his bar POS.
“Having a point of sale system that does what it’s supposed to do, all the time, dependably, is just amazing and a mission critical part of our business. And Upserve has been that.”
A Consistent Restaurant POS
In the restaurant industry, every minute of every shift counts. As an owner, you need a restaurant POS system that you can rely on, because your customers are relying on you. That includes restaurant payment processing, too. The guest experience doesn’t stop at the last bite, after all.
“Our previous system, before we had this system, sometimes it would take 3 to 6 minutes to do one credit card, and at the end of that sometimes the transaction would fail you’d have to start over.
So there were times that we were actually just fighting with the system trying to transact business. We have never had that happen since we put this system in. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a credit card take more than 2 seconds to process. And that’s the paperwork is printed for the customer, you’re ready to go.”
“With Upserve I don’t even have to step out from behind the bar; I can access the back office right from the iPad that I’m standing at. Buttons can be added and removed quickly and easily and as soon as I hit save, it’s automatically on all the iPads. It really saves so much time, you know, when time is so important to us.”
Now instead of a bartender on a busy night spending time fighting with our point-of-sale system trying to get a credit card to work, they’re serving 10 more drinks. And that’s actually impacted our speed of service. Our customer satisfaction is definitely impacted by that, but we’ve also seen it in the numbers. So we’ve seen a 10 to 15 percent increase in sales on our busiest nights by having a point-of-sale system that can handle transactions very quickly.”
