Caboose Brewing Company knew exactly what they needed from a brewery POS system – a portable, iPad restaurant POS that their servers would come to love. Even before officially opening their doors in Vienna, VA, they had integrated Upserve POS and haven’t looked back since.
For Matt Greer of Caboose Brewing Company, his restaurant POS search found that Upserve POS was one of the very few systems that gave him the flexibility to manage the business on the go, while increasing efficiencies from faster new hire training to improving his veteran servers’ performance.
Now, with a successful craft brewery, Matt is opening up a 2nd location with Upserve powering operations across the brand!
A Predictable Brewery POS
Providing faster service, easier management, and a mobile system, that’s what Upserve POS was able to help Caboose Brewing Company achieve. In an industry where predictability is hard to come by, a restaurant POS system needs to be just that: predictable.
“Everything on that side of the wall, the brewery side of the wall, is very predictable. It’s very scheduled. The restaurant industry is always in flux. You’ve got different people with different tastes walking in the door every second of the day, and they’re expecting something different out of you.
We actually integrated Upserve POS into our environment before we even opened our doors. We knew exactly what we wanted out of our point of sale system and Upserve was one of the very few, practically the only one that could deliver everything we wanted.”
A Mobile POS
For Matt, everything he ever wanted included the ability to manage his restaurant from outside the four walls it resided. Which is why Upserve POS and it’s mobile app was exactly what he needed.
“So one of the main features of Upserve that we liked from the very beginning was its portability. We knew we wanted to have a tablet based system. We didn’t want to be bogged down in any of the previous technologies that were out there. A lot of the older systems used giant terminals that could only be updated by a company somewhere in the US that you had to pay a lot of extra money for. We knew we didn’t need that.”

And with native restaurant technology, training is easier than ever…
“Training was probably the best part of this entire scenario. Most everyone in this industry nowadays, has used some sort of tablet in the past. So, you’re really just giving them another application within this tablet to use. They can easily find their way around. Upserve is very intuitive.”
An Integrated POS
“One of the benefits of having Upserve POS integrated with Upserve’s restaurant management software is our ability to save time in generating reports. Each night, we use the logbook and without our logbook it would be a tremendous amount of effort to get us the information that we need on a daily basis. Not only can you fill out the logbook for Upserve on the computer, but now with the live app you can do it on your mobile device. So when something comes to you, you can just look down and just start typing immediately. You don’t have to wait until the end of service.
A great example of that is being able to pull up the server tab within Upserve, and actually see which of my servers are actually underperforming. They may have great statistics on their overall sales, but with the Upserve ability to go into the server module and actually see who is serving above or beyond their means is, is a great ability.
After about two years of being open we decided that we needed to expand just a little bit. So we’re opening a Caboose Two just down the road. And of course Upserve will be right there with us.”
